ROBERT Mugabe’s excesses knew no bounds as shown when he celebrated his 91st birthday when he and guests tucked into baby elephant.
Endangered antelope was also on the “zoo” menu and lion heads decorated the bash, which was attended by thousands of supporters who made his kleptocracy possible.

The animals were provided by farmer Tendai Musasa.
He delivered a total of two buffaloes, two elephants, a lion, one crocodile, five impalas and two sables all of which were freshly slaughtered.
For Robert Mugabe, who has died aged 95, was not conservative with his spending.
This was especially so when it came to the money of his country, which was once dubbed “breadbasket of Africa”, but ended up as one of the world’s poorest nations.
Together with his wife Grace, he made sure imploding Zimbabwe bankrolled shopping trips to Paris, Rome and London as well as furnishing him with a fully staffed £8million mega-mansion.
BIRTHDAY TREATS
So when it came to his birthday all the stops were pulled out.
And his 91st was no exception.
The party was estimated to have cost $1million (£648,000) and took place at an exclusive lodge, spa and golf course in Victoria Falls.
Ironically, given what was on the menu, the venue was called Elephant Hills.
During the celebrations, Mugabe released 91 balloons into the sky with the help of his wife, Grace.
An estimated 20,000 people attended but only those at the top tables were treated to the wild animals.
Seven cakes were also on offer, one in the shape of the African continent and most of them were the size of a single mattress.
At the time the celebrations were described as “totally unethical” by wildlife conservationist.

Meanwhile opposition parties, which had been forced to operate from abroad, labelled the party “obscene”.
Movement for Democratic Change’s spokesman Obert Gutu said: “All the money that has been collected to bankroll this obscene jamboree should be immediately channelled towards rehabilitating the collapsed public hospitals, clinics and rural schools in Matebeleland North province.”
Not that Mugabe risked being treated in his nation’s ailing hospitals. He died in a five star clinic in Singapore.
