SOUTH AFRICAN rugby legend Chester Williams has died at 49 after a suspected heart attack.
The eNCA television news channel in South Africa, reported the former 1995 World Cup winner passed away on Friday.
Sport24 report Williams had complained about a pain in his chest on Friday afternoon having returned to his home in Cape Town after a gym session.
He was rushed to hospital, but passed away on arrival.
Williams played 27 Tests for the Springboks in his seven-year career from 1993 to 2000, scoring 14 tries.
President of SA Rugby, Mark Alexander said: “Chester was a true pioneer in South African rugby.
“His performances at the World Cup in 1995, as a snapshot of his Springbok career, will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of our rugby public.
“The news of Chester’s passing is devastating and hard to believe, as he was still young and seemingly in good health.”

After retirement the winger turned to coaching and recently served as as head coach at the University of the Western Cape.
The news of Williams’ death comes less than two months after his World Cup winning team-mate James Small’s died of a heart attack.
Small was found naked and unconscious in a sex club before being rushed to hospital where he died of a heart attack, it was reported.
