But what happened when Paul was a teenager? And why has he been in denial about it?
Let’s find out…
When was Paul abused in Coronation Street?
Paul’s Coronation Street storyline is one of historic sexual abuse. It happened about over a decade ago when Paul was just 14-years-old.
It’s not clear how the abuse started but Paul – who’s played by Peter Ash in the ITV soap – was shocked when his mum, Bernie, reconnected with his former step-dad, Kel.
From conversations between Paul and Kel, it soon became clear that the pair of them had had a sexual relationship with Kel was with Bernie the first time around.

Vicar Billy Mayhew became concerned about Paul’s behaviour and, when Paul told him about his relationship with Kel, Billy pointed out that he’d been abused by the older man.
Paul was furious and told Billy they’d been in love and the sex was consensual but Billy told him that, at 14, he wasn’t old enough to give consent and that he’d been groomed.
Since then the truth has slowly started to dawn on Paul and he’s having a tough time coping with the shocking realisation that he’s been sexually abused.
