THE Good Hotel Guide 2020 has revealed the best value guesthouses and B&Bs across the UK.
Many of the charming properties offer a bit of history with modern amenities – and they start from just £35.
First published in 1978, the Good Hotel Guide chooses the best hotels in the country based on reader recommendations.
One of the editors will anonymously test out the location themselves to get a feel of the atmosphere, design and food, among other things.
The 2020 edition offers the best properties around the UK, from converted Georgian farmhouses to traditional Victorian B&Bs.

The Roseleigh, Buxton
Located in Derbyshire, the family-run The Roseleigh overlooks the Pavilion Gardens lake for some peace and quiet.
Included is complimentary breakfast featuring porridge, cereal and fruit, along with eggs from their garden hens.
It is also well-located, being near the Buxton Opera House.
Rooms start from just £35.
Thistleyhaugh Farm, Longhorsley
Thistleyhaugh Farm in Northumberland has been run by three generations of families.
Guests at the Georgian farmhouse are advised to try the home-made food, including tasty shortbreads.
For just £12.50, you can also enjoy a light supper, which includes a sandwich platter, homemade pudding and a hot drink in the lounge.
Single rooms start from £70, double rooms start from £110.
Jura Hotel, Craighouse
Found on the Isle of Jura in the Inner Hebrides, Jura Hotel has 17 bedrooms, many of which offer a sea-view.
Walkers will enjoy their stay thanks to the number of trails around, with many coming to see the local wildlife.
However, there is just one shop and one pub on the island.
Don’t want to break the bank? Pay just £5 and you can pitch a tent in front of the hotel.

The Old Vicarage, Dolfor
This eco-friendly Victorian vicarage found in Wales has just four rooms, all named after local rivers – Teme, Mule, Ithon and Severn.
Fully licensed, they offer traditional Welsh beers alongside other spirits and alcohol, including Czech pilsner.
The highlight is the evening mezze platters, which change every day.
Rooms start from £68.
Trelaske Hotel & Restaurant, Looe
The owners of Trelaske Hotel & Restaurant in Cornwall dub themselves “real foodies”, meaning you can expect exciting menus at their restaurant.
Everything is designed, prepped and cooked by owners Ross and Hazel, with an ever-changing menu using local meats and fish.
While they don’t cater to young eaters, with no kids’ menu, they are happy to accommodate allergies and intolerances.
Double rooms start from £110.
Brownber Hall, Newbiggin-on-Lune
The eights rooms at this Yorkshire Dales guesthouse are decorated simply, with extras such as underfloor heating and a view over the Howgill Fells.
Previously based in London, the owners took over the 1860 home in 2016, renovating Brownber Hall to fit into the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
You can explore the area by bike, with rentals starting from £20, or try wild flower hunting, wild swimming and star gazing.

No. 33, Hunstanton
No.33 have just five king-size suites, each with a large sea view and an option for breakfast in bed.
There is also complimentary cream tea served between 3pm and 4pm in the main lounge for guests arriving at the hotel.
They work closely with Thornham Deli so guests also get a 10 per cent voucher to buy food and drink from the store.

The Rock Inn, Newton Abbot
The Rock Inn guests have the sprawling Dartmoor National Park on their doorstep.
With an AA Rosette restaurant, a three course meal costs just £24.95 with local meals created by the resident chef.
Dog-lovers can also bring their pets to stay with them.

Newbegin House, Beverley
The Georgian Newbegin House is owned by the Sweeney family and their bull terrier, who rent out three of the guest rooms.
Inside the rooms are small extras such as fresh milk, biscuits and chocolates in the fridge.
In the warmer months, the walled garden is perfect for a cup of Yorkshire tea.
Single rooms start from £60, double rooms start from £90.
The Old Rectory, Boscastle
A morning newspaper, fresh flowers in the room, free laundry services and even a free lift into Boscastle for the evening is on offer at The Old Rectory.
The dog-friendly Victorian home is also near many of Cornwall’s best beaches such as Bude and Crackington Haven.
They also do their bit to be eco-friendly, from growing their own fruit and veg, solar panels for power and and environmentally friendly products.
