MANCHESTER UNITED are considering a £40million January raid for Lyon’s Moussa Dembele after scouting him last night, according to reports.
The Lyon striker is just one goal off top spot in the Ligue 1 scoring charts but was benched for a 1-0 defeat at St-Etienne.
And the Daily Mail claims Old Trafford chiefs think the Frenchman, 23, could be the answer to their goalscoring woes.
Dembele came off the bench and had his side’s only shot on target in a performance which increased the pressure on manager Sylvinho.
The former Arsenal star took over Lyon this year and has been rotating his forward line frequently as he tries to save his job.
That could open the door for under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to pounce in January as he looks to find a reliable No9.
Dembele caught the eye with Fulham as a teen and earned a move to Celtic, where he managed an impressive 51 goals in 94 games.
Since joining Lyon, he has found the net 25 times – scoring a goal every other game.
The clinical hitman has already helped himself to five strikes in four matches this season and could be exactly what United need.
