Heston Blumenthal blasted for saying women are held back in top kitchens as they struggle to lift heavy pots and pans

CELEB chef Heston Blumenthal has been blasted for saying women are held back in top kitchens — because they struggle to lift heavy pots and pans after giving birth.

The dad-of-four, 53, says “evolution” prevents females from reaching the same level as men in his industry.

Blumenthal made the comments when asked why women aren’t dominating the top of the culinary industry.

He told the Economic Times: “I have always employed female chefs, but historically and ultimately, the body clock starts working.

“It’s evolution, and it is one thing to have a 9-5 job and quite another to be a chef with kids.

“So, that makes it difficult, the physical strain of lifting heavy pots and pans.”

Blumenthal added that the industry is much better than it was 15 years ago, when women had to be “tough as boots” to succeed.

He said that women are less likely to stand for sexist behaviour, adding “Quite frankly, men have asked for this; they’ve brought it on themselves.

“The shock of women standing up for themselves is strong and men get really insecure.”

The London-born chef left social media in a frenzy as some users took issue with his opinion, labelling his view “utter nonsense”.

It comes as the Michelin Guide, released this week, was dominated by male chefs.
