Jane Fonda, 81, arrested and handcuffed by cops in Washington DC during climate change protest
HOLLYWOOD legend Jane Fonda was arrested today as she took part in a climate change protest in Washington DC.
The 81-year-old double Oscar winner was handcuffed on the steps of the Capitol Building after addressing her fellow protesters and holding up a “No new fossil fuels” placard.
Dressed in a bright red coat, Fonda was one of 16 protesters charged with crowding and obstructing, according to CBS News.
She had her hands zip-tied behind her back and was led away by a group of cops as her supporters cheered her on.
The star has promised to protest every Friday until January after being inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg’s global environmental movement.
Ahead of the protest, Fonda told the Washington Post she was calling her efforts “Fire Drill Fridays”.

Fonda was inspired to take action after reading how Thunberg couldn’t eat because of her worry about climate change.
She added: “It so traumatised her that she stopped speaking and eating. And when I read that, it rocked me because I knew that Greta had seen the truth. And the urgency came into my DNA the way it hadn’t before.
“Greta said we have to behave like it’s a crisis. We have to behave like our houses are on fire.”
And she told the Los Angeles Times: “I can no longer stand by and let our elected officials ignore – and even worse empower – the industries that are destroying our planet for profit. We can not continue to stand for this.”
Reports suggest Fonda is taking time away from her Netflix series Grace & Frankie to protest climate change.
The actress spoke at last month’s global climate strike in LA.
