Today’s free horse racing tips: The Betting Spy’s top picks for Saturday’s racing at Newmarket, York and Chepstow

IN a training career that spans almost 50 years it is amazing that the master of stayers, Sir Mark Prescott, is yet to win a Cesarewitch. He can finally Land the prize this year.

He has two good chances, Timoshenko and LAND OF OZ (4.10 Newmarket). The former has been put by for today since winning at Glorious Goodwood and looks sure to run well.

But he did not look to have much to spare last time and, in a better race off a 5lb higher mark, he could well add to the list of Prescott near misses.

Land Of Oz, on the other hand, looked to have loads left in the locker when winning the Trial over course and distance three weeks ago. He is just 4lb higher now.

His only defeat in his last seven starts was when third in the Melrose at York, always one of the hottest handicaps of the season, where he was outspeeded over 1m6f on fast ground. Today’s test will be much more his cup of tea.

Willie Mullins saddled the one-two last year and he runs three – Buildmeupbuttercup, sure to go off favourite with Frankie Dettori on board, Great White Shark and Stratum.

The first two in particular look like big players. So too is Ranch Hand, flagged up as an Eyecatcher here in March and a 14-1 winner on his handicap debut at Haydock last time.

He will love the ground but has to prove his stamina. Dubawi Fifty, fourth in this two years ago and 1lb lower than when second in the Northumberland Plate, will stay and could reward each-way backers at tasty odds.

MOLATHAM is the one to be with in the Autumn Stakes (2.55). The only horse to beat him is Mums Tipple when they both made their debuts at Ascot.

Since then Roger Varian’s colt has won a hot maiden at York before beating Wichita, who was a massively impressive winner here two weeks ago, at Doncaster’s Leger meeting. Molatham can continue his progress by winning this Group 3.

Al Suhail has obvious claims on the book but did not look to be the greatest of battlers when third in the Solario at Sandown. The lightly-raced Cherokee Trail and Military March are hard to assess and Persia, as the chosen representative of the Ballydoyle battalions, must be respected.

Betting Spy's top tips for Saturday

INDEED can successfully step up to Group level in the Darley Stakes (5.20) with the 1m1f trip on softish ground ideal for the lightly-raced four-year-old.

He won well at Newmarket in the summer and was fancied for Goodwood’s Golden Mile, despite being drawn in the car park. He bled there so the run should be ignored – although the market support should not.

Consistent Matterhorn should go well and Irish raider Pincheck is a danger whilst Duneflower, although her progression may have halted, is probably the pick of the three-year-olds.

At York JOHNNY DRAMA can play the starring role in the 3.15. He ran his best race since his switch from Ger Lyons’s yard when second over this course and distance at the Ebor meeting, only beaten by the impressive Forest Of Dean.

Johnny Drama disappointed last time but, back here and crucially, on soft ground he relished when trained in Ireland, he holds a massive chance.

Forest Ranger and Big Country are solid classy performers but the handicapper probably knows just how good they are. Mark Johnston’s two three-year-olds also look weighted to the hilt.

I spy an eyecatcher...

At Newmarket last Saturday Ralph Beckett gave a debut to KINROSS in the 7f novice event – and what a debut it was!

The two-year-old blew away his rivals with a terrific turn of foot to win by eight lengths, the rivals including a last-time-out Newbury winner, a promising maiden of Simon Crisford’s and well-bred newcomers from the yards of Aidan O’Brien and William Haggas.

Appropriately enough Kin is well-related, being a Kingman colt out of a Selkirk mare. Beckett has been associated with any number of top three-year-old fillies – in 2020 Kinross could become his first Classic colt.

Harrovian is probably the big danger, from the all-conquering John Gosden yard. The 4lb rise for his win in a five-runner affair at Yarmouth is fair but he has yet to race on anything softer than

good and the ground on the Knavesmire (there is a clue in the name!) can get very testing.

I have to admit ‘summer jumping’ leaves me cold but there has been nothing summery about the weather lately and nor is there in the fare on offer at Chepstow.

It has a touch of true midwinter quality and DRINKS INTERVAL can get the jumping party started by landing the 3.20. The mare won over course and distance at this meeting last year and ran well in some decent races afterwards.

Proven ability round this tricky track is always a plus as is her record of running well fresh. Her mark of 137 looks lenient to me.

The opposite is true of the topweights Ballyoptic, Royal Vacation and Lil Rockerfeller who are weighted to their best, although the latter is race-fit and will like the ground. Longer term Cloth Cap is one to watch but he may prefer further in time and could need the run.

Relentless Dreamer represents an in-form yard but has been absent for a year and has never been at his best after a break.
