Towie fans praise Courtney Green for filming her smear test for the reality show
THE Only Way Is Essex fans have praised Courtney Green for filming her smear test for the ITVBe reality show.
The 24-year-old star spoke candidly about going for her first cervical screening throughout tonight’s episode before having the camera’s join her in the doctor’s surgery.
Chloe Meadows joined the brunette beauty for moral support, offering her pal her hand to squeeze as she admitted that she was nervous.
Laying on the bed with a sheet over her lower half, the nurse told Courtney to put her legs up as she explained what was going to happen.
She said: “The reason we are doing it, we are looking for abnormalities in the cells in the cervix.
“It takes longer to set it up than it does to do it so please don’t worry.”
Holding up the speculum, she continued: “This is the speculum, it feels a little cold and it will be a little uncomfortable but tell me if you find it too uncomfortable.
“Try and relax.”
Courtney looked nervous as the procedure was filmed, but was surprised when it was quickly over.
She told Chloe: “It really wasn’t that bad, I can’t believe I have done it.”
Proud of her friend, Chloe joked: “Well done to Courtney’s vagina!” before adding: “Let’s go get some wine and ice cream.”
Viewers at home were impressed by the scenes, flocking to social media to praise Towie for raising awareness around smear tests.
One wrote: “Well done @courtneyMgreen for having your smear test filmed and raising awareness.”
Another added: “Have to commend them for highlighting the importance of smear tests and huge admiration for @courtneyMgreen for getting it done on TV.”
A third said: “This is actually incredible. Well done @courtneyMgreen for showing how quick and easy it is. Girls, please go for your smear!!”
Symptoms of cervical cancer
REGULAR smear tests are particularly important to look for signs of cervical cancer as there are no obvious symptoms of the disease during the early stages.
Vaginal bleeding can often be a tell-tale sign, especially if it occurs after sex, inbetween periods, or after the menopause.
Women are offered smear tests from the age of 25, with the screening looking for any abnormalities in the cervix, but if you are under the age bracket and notice any of the following symptoms it is important to go to your GP.
Warning signs include:
- Pain and discomfort during sex
- Unusual or unpleasant vaginal discharge
- Pain in your lower back or pelvis
And if it spreads to other organs, the signs can include:
- Pain in your lower back or pelvis
- Severe pain in your side or back, caused by your kidneys
- Constipation
- Needing to use the toilet more often than usual
- Losing control of your bladder or bowels
- Blood in your urine
- Swelling in one or both legs
- Severe vaginal bleeding
