A DAD was left horrified when a sick woman hijacked his Nest Camera and threatened to steal his baby son.
Jack Newcombe, of California, felt “completely helpless” as the unknown voice spoke through his home security device.
Jack explained that the woman initially made jokes but when she was ignored went onto threaten to take his child[/caption]
He was first alerted to the hacker by the nanny taking care of his 18-month-old child, while he and his wife were at work.
Jack then tuned into the broadcast feed and heard the female voice laugh.
“She says we have a nice house and encourages the nanny to respond. She does not,” he wrote in Mercury News.
‘I’m sick to my stomach’
The woman then jokes stating that she “hopes” they don’t change their password.
At this point Jack wrote: “I am sick to my stomach.”
The nanny did not interact with the hacker despite her using a series of “bad words”.
I’m coming for the baby if you don’t answer me, b***h!
The chilling threat from the Nest Camera hacker
Clearly “agitated” by being ignored, the woman “then snaps, in a very threatening voice”.
Jack claims she then said: “I’m coming for the baby if you don’t answer me, b***h!”
He described the terrifying moment: “It feels as though my heart is about to beat through my chest.
“The blood rushes to my face. I am completely helpless.”
HE WAS NOT ALONE
Jack instructs the nanny to take his son to a park down the street and keep him away from the home.
He then went onto change the passwords on the device.
After researching Nest Cam hackings, Jack discovered he was not the only one to be hacked.
Other owners had reported that their devices were infiltrated too and some had rude words yelled at them too.
OTHERS WERE HACKED TOO
Another stated that the hacker used the device to increase the temperature on their thermostat.
They include one Illinois couple who claimed that a voice spewed obscene language to their child in January.
Another couple in Milwaukee claimed someone played vulgar music through their device in September.
INTRUDER ALERT
Nest Cameras, which are produced by Google, were designed to allow people to remotely view their home.
Owners of the device access a video feed and communicate through it.
It’s aim was to help users “monitor for intruders, or to simply keep tabs on your kids or pets,” their site read.
They act as if I am going to continue to use Nest cameras.
Jack Newcombe
Earlier this year, Google were forced to send out warnings to Nest Camera owners after a spike in them being hacked.
Jack wrote of his own aftercare experiences, where he was “on hold for an hour and eight minutes”.
He added: “Nobody from Google has acknowledged the incident or responded with any semblance of empathy.
“In every email, they remind me of two-step authentication.
