EVEN pop stars are subject to the financial woes of a property market slump.
I’m sad to report that Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts has had her luxury home repossessed by the bank.
Cheryl’s best pal had been trying to sell the pad in Weybridge, Surrey, for a number of years.
She was terrified the ex-boyfriend stalker who haunted her for some time was aware of where she lived.
But finding a buyer was impossible and the singer accepted she had to do a deal with the bank to save herself from financial ruin.
Because the repossession was a mutual agreement, she was able to secure her belongings before the house was put on the market.
The 34-year-old has now relocated to London to begin a new chapter in her life and told me: “It was my decision to go to the bank and ask if they would take the house in exchange for clearing the mortgage.
“I had been trying to sell the house for years, and was so unhappy there that I decided to take the hit financially in order to move on and find a new property away from the bad memories. I’m really happy in my new home now.”
Nicola moved to the three-bedroom penthouse in Surrey back in 2009 — shelling out £1.25million for the leasehold property.
Land registry documents reveal she took out a mortgage with upmarket bank Coutts to secure her dream home — which she then heavily converted to create a beautiful modern living space, complete with walk-in wardrobe and hi-tech gym.
Her home, in a stunning mansion, had a terrace overlooking beautifully manicured shared gardens.
The property was first listed with estate agents in February 2017, with photographs showing it filled with Nicola’s furniture and belongings. But even slashing the price since then has failed to attract a buyer.
A renewed listing updated last month saw the home marketed for just £825,000 — a huge loss on the price Nicola paid, in a bid for a quick sale so she could get on with her life.
The singer’s belongings have been cleared out to leave the home empty, while white goods and appliances in the kitchen and laundry room have been sealed shut with “do not use” tape by the repossession agents.
It’s been a tough few years for Nicola after the highs of being in the megastar girl band that was responsible for hits including Something Kinda Ooooh, Sound Of The Underground, Biology and The Promise.
The Crown Prosecution Service last year apologised for its decision not to prosecute Nicola’s ex-boyfriend Carl Davies, who was accused of violating a restraining order by stalking her.
He ended up receiving a lifetime restraining order after sending her 3,000 messages, which included threats to burn and stab her.

Nicola said at the time: “This is a relationship which ended ten years ago. I should be able to move on from an unhealthy relationship if I want to and that has not been able to happen for me.
“You are too scared to take the dogs out for a walk because, when someone plants vicious seeds, you just imagine every possible outcome.”
While it’s clearly been a very difficult period of her life, I’m glad that the deal with the bank has given her the opportunity to move to a new house where she can live without the fear of her stalker knowing where to find her.
