LadBaby to release new sausage roll-themed cover in bid to become Christmas No1
HE became the most unlikely Christmas No1 since Rage Against The Machine when he reached the top spot last year – and now LadBaby is here to retain his crown.
The viral sensation, who regularly racks up 20million views a week with his comedy videos online, has revealed he is releasing a pastry-themed cover for charity, this time of Joan Jett’s I Love Rock N Roll, as I Love Sausage Rolls.
His hilarious Starship parody, We Built This City on Sausage Rolls, beat off competition from Ava Max and Ariana Grande last year and now he wants to do the same – all for a good cause.
On a visit to Bizarre to announce his new song, out this Friday, the dad-of-two said he had been inspired to give it another shot after seeing how the proceeds last year literally saved lives when they were donated to food bank charity The Trussell Trust.
He told me: “I think only The Beatles and Spice Girls have done it back to back, so there’s a chance for me to be in that very small elite.
“We wasn’t going to do it, we really wasn’t and then a couple of months ago, we started getting the figures from the charity.
“That’s when we were like, ‘OK, all jokes aside, we should try and raise more this year. We should try and do it again.’
“What we raised last year is the equivalent to about 70,000 food packages, which, when you consider they’ve given out 800,000 in the last six months, the problem is still huge. We’re going to try and beat that.
“We’ve spent some time talking to the volunteers and learning about it. It is heartbreaking, it really is.
“It’s doing that that really brings home the importance of what I think we want to achieve.”
LadBaby, whose real name is Mark Hoyle, has quit his job as a designer this year as his career as a YouTube personality has soared.
Despite hundreds of other videos, he is still known for his love of sausage rolls and admitted he has been on a diet to prepare for the imminent influx.
Asked if it had put him off the baked snacks, he said: “It did last Christmas because in the space of a week, I think everywhere I went for an interview, they had a plate of sausage rolls.

“But now I’m fully back on them, so we’ll see how the next couple of weeks go.
“I have to diet all year, so I can just binge for this next month.”
As something of a sausage roll aficionado myself, this is a cause I can get behind.
LadBaby's Christmas No1 competition
LEWIS Capaldi – Before You Go: “It’s hard with Capaldi because he is a megastar. He’s everywhere and I genuinely do like his music so it’s gonna be really difficult but he ignored my DM on Instagram so for that, I don’t like him now. I just DM’d him and was like,’ Mate I’m doing a song about sausage rolls, do you want to get involved?’ But now I see he’s in the running so he’s probably not going to do that.”
ROBBIE Williams & Tyson Fury – Bad Sharon: “I don’t know but Tyson Fury, I went up against him for Celebrity Dad of the Year two years ago and beat him them. Although that’s the funny one because me and Fury are probably the only two people on this list that can’t sing. So that’s probably the most interesting battle, isn’t it?”
THE X Factor Cast – Run: “I just don’t want SIMON COWELL to get it again. I don’t mind if anyone gets it, as long as it’s not Simon Cowell. That’s fine by me. I honestly don’t mind. Download anything, just don’t download that one. Just don’t. Anything but X Factor.”
MARIAH Carey -All I Want For Christmas Is You: “I struggle with Mariah because I love her and it’s an incredible song. But after seeing her advert this year of her trying to eat a crisp… It was like, I’m being paid like 100 million billion pounds to promote crisps and I can’t even bring it to my mouth. So the fact that she struggles to eat crisps, come on, that can’t beat a sausage roll, can it?”
