Game of Thrones snubbed by Golden Globes as hit show misses out in two major categories
Game Of Thrones and Netflix drama Russian Doll are among the major 2020 Golden Globes snubs.
The annual awards ceremony revealed their list of nominations on Monday, with the final season of the hit HBO show failing to pick up a best drama series nod; the show and Peter Dinklage both won Emmys earlier in 2019.
Kit Harington garnered the only nod for GOT[/caption]
FX drama Pose also missed out on nomination despite critical acclaim, while there was outrage as Netflix’s limited series about the Central Park Five, When They See Us, missed out on any nominations.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus also failed to get a nod in tthe lead comedy actress category for the acclaimed final season of HBO’s Veep while Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t get any recognition for her performance in Netflix’s Ryan Murphy dramedy The Politician.
Surprises came however for The Loudest Voice and Channel 4’s Catch-22 adaptation, as well as a nod for 2019 Oscar winner Rami Malek for Mr. Robot.
In the film categories, there was major snubs for all female directors as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose to name five male directors as the best of the year.

Lupita Nyong’o and Us were both snubbed despite acclaim[/caption]
Sam Mendes received a director’s nod for 1917[/caption]
Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, 1917’s Sam Mendes and Todd Phillips for Joker will all vie for the award.
However Robert De Niro’s name was missing from the best actor- drama category, surprising many.
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women missed out on nominations in both Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and – Drama categories, although Saoirse Ronan is nomianted for best actress – drama for her role as Jo March.
The film is currently expected to land a host of nominations come Oscar time so this snub is a major surprise.

The highly-anticipated adaptation of Cats also missed out on any major nominations.
Tom Hooper’s film aired very last minute to voters which may hav affected its chances although Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber were nominated for the musical’s new original song Beautiful Ghosts.
Lupita Nyong’o also missed out on a best actress – drama nod for her work in Jordan Peele’s Us. The horror flick was released in early 2019 but has remained in the conversation, with Lupita garnering a Critics Choice Award nominations earlier in December making her another front runner for an Oscars nod.
