HARVEY Weinstein has been accused of “trying to gaslight society” after whining that he helped women and is a “forgotten man”.
Twenty-three women who accuse him of abuse issued the stinging statement after the movie mogul gave an interview making the claims and insisted his back pain is not faked.
The disgraced Hollywood heavyweight whined that his apparently pioneering work with women has been overlooked amid the #MeToo scandal.
Speaking to Page Six from his flashy hospital room, Weinstein insisted he was only going ahead with the unprecedented interview to prove he wasn’t exaggerating his back pain.
But now Rose McGowan – who has long claimed that Weinstein raped her in 1997 – tweeted: “I didn’t forget you, Harvey.
“My body didn’t forget you. I wish it could. I refused to sign an NDA after it happened because I knew I would come for you. And I did. This is about stopping a prolific rapist. You.”
McGowan has accused Weinstein of raping her on the edge of his jaccuzzi at the 1997 Sundance film festival.
He vehemently denies it and all other allegations against him.
In a statement released by 23 of the other women who accuse him, they said it was an attempt by Weinstein to “gaslight society again”.
‘HE WILL BE REMEMBERED’
It added: “He says in a new interview he doesn’t want to be forgotten. Well, he won’t be.
“He will be remembered as a sexual predator and an unrepentant abuser who took everything and deserves nothing.
“He will be remembered by the collective will of countless women who stood up and said enough.
“We refuse to let this predator rewrite his legacy of abuse,’ the women said in a statement to Page Six.”
Speaking to Page Six from his flashy hospital room, Weinstein insisted he was only going ahead with the unprecedented interview to prove he wasn’t exaggerating his back pain.
The 67-year-old, who is awaiting trial for rape, says he sustained a back injury in August for which he has recently undergone a three hour surgery.
Recent court appearances have seen the mogul using a walking frame with some suggesting that he was exaggerating his injuries to garner sympathy – which he vehemently denies, adding: “I think they wanted to embarrass me.”
The alleged sex-pest used the interview to launch a bizarre pity-party, insisting: “I want this city to recognize who I was instead of what I’ve become.”
He continued: “It all got eviscerated because of what happened…My work has been forgotten.”
Weinstein refused to discuss his criminal charges – including rape, predatory sexual assault and criminal sex acts – all of which he denies – throughout the unprecedented chat.
‘I’LL MOVE ON’
According to the interviewer, he snapped: “I’ll move on” when asked uncomfortable questions.
Wientstein also moaned that he had “made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker,” bizarrely insisting that he “pioneered” women in film despite the slew of allegations against him.
He said: “I’m talking about 30 years ago. I’m not talking about now when it’s vogue. I did it first! I pioneered it!
“This was a company that took social issues and tackled them.”
He even bragged about what a lucrative contract he gave to Gwyneth Paltrow – one of his alleged victims.
The Hollywood heavyweight will go on trial in January to face five allegations of sexual assault – all of which he strongly denies.
He is also alleged to have “mishandled” a compulsory monitoring device which he also addressed in the interview insisting the allegations were made to smear him.
He said: “If you remember who I was then, you might want to question some of this.”
Weinstein is accused of first degree rape, third degree rape, criminal sexual act and two counts of predatory sexual assault.
