CORONATION Street fans are in tears as David Platt is told his wife Shona Ramsey is brain dead – and Michelle Connor leaves the cobbles.
Fans got a double-dosing of bad news after the bloodbath Christmas episode saw three characters dead.
Shona was caught in the crossfire of Derek Milligan’s murderous rampage against Gary Windass and ended up in hospital.
While things were looking promising at first, her health took a turn for the worse when she fell into a coma.
A devastated David kept a vigil by her bedside, before being told Shona needed more tests.
However, tragedy struck when the doctor revealed the results of the tests – and that her brain activity had deteriorated.
This should make fans even more worried as David’s half-brother Nick Tilsley says to grandmother Audrey and sister Sarah that Shona needs to live, because he “can’t survive this happening again”.
One fan said: “Feel so sorry for poor David platt, he can’t get a break, another wife dead in a tragic way!”
Another added: “Such a shame poor Shona it isn’t fair I loved her”
A third remarked: “One of these years, David will actually have a good Christmas.”
But this wasn’t the only sad event of the day, as Michelle Connor finally left the cobbles.
Michelle’s two-timing partner Robert Preston was the second victim of Derek’s rampage, after accidentally being hit by a warning shot.
He briefly regained consciousness in hospital for some final scenes with his ex-fiancee Michelle before he finally passes away.
On top of the death, Michelle found out she accidentally sold the Bistro to her sleazy ex-boss Ray Crosby.

Kym Marsh announced she was leaving the soap earlier in the year.
The final scenes showed Michelle in tears – but ultimately excited – as she waves goodbye to her friends and family.
Fans were sad to see her go, with one person saying: “I hope @msm4rsh isn’t leaving for good. She’s the only reason I watch #Corrie”
Another added: “What a great exit for Michelle ”
A third said: “im going to miss michelle so much”
