GRUESOME footage has emerged of a vet yanking a pulsating parasite from an eight-week-old kitten’s nose.
The cat was suffering from chronic nasal discharge when it arrived at a veterinary hospital in North Carolina.
Upon closer examination, vets at Animal Care East in Winterville quickly identified the issue – a huge Cuterebra botfly larva living in the animal’s nostril.
They extracted the bug using a pair of surgical forceps and recorded a clip of the grisly ordeal.
Speaking to Newsflare, the filmer explained: “When the eight-week-old kitten presented to the clinic, it had a chronic history of sneezing and oculonasal discharge and had a grossly distended right nostrum.
“I decided to sedate the kitten and I would have never guessed there would be a gigantic botfly in there!
“Usually they are only roughly a centimeter or so in length and found burrowed into the skin.
“This was the largest one I have ever seen … and it was in the nose!”
The footage, recorded in November, shows the frightened kitty being held down by vets as the worm-like creature is plucked from its face.
After a few seconds the bug is pulled free and begins to wriggle between the vet’s forceps.
Fortunately, the young cat made a full recovery following the minor surgery.
“The kitten is back to better now with no concerns reported by the owner; no more discharge, no more sneezing,” the anonymous filmer added.
“This was such an awesome outcome for a great kitten and a great pet owner.”
It remains unclear how the lava got in the kitten’s nose, but thankfully the kitty is okay.
