AN URGENT recall has been issued for infant ibuprofen after a company found some of its batches had higher concentrations of the medication.
Tris Pharma has recalled three additional lots of its Ibuprofen Oral Suspension Drops, USP, 50mg per 1.25mL from the CVS and Equate brands, according to the FDA.
Infants susceptible to the adverse effects of ibuprofen could be at a higher risk if they ingest the medication from an affected bottle.
There’s a small possibility that babies who are less immune to higher potency levels of the drug are more vulnerable to permanent kidney-related damage associated with NSAIDs.
The New Jersey-based company has already recalled a total of six lots of the medicine, which contained 10 per cent more ibuprofen that the specified limit.
Tris Phrama expanded their initial December 2018 recall in January 2019, prompting CVS, Family Dollar, and Walmart to pull the products from their shelves.
The affected products are ones that have expired during 2019.

There have been no other ibuprofen recalls since last January, and no serious cases of adverse effects relating to the recall have been reported, the FDA said.
The agency added that consumers shouldn’t use the product, but instead throw it out or bring to the place of purchase for a full refund.
