How can I help stop the Australia fires?
There are actions people can take to help show their support – even from hundreds of miles away.
Donating and fundraising to help victims of the bushfires and to raise support for the servicemen and women who are risking their lives are ways people can help from afar.
Raising awareness through social media campaigns is also a good way to spread the message.
How can I help Australia fires victims?
Over 20 people have died in the bushfires so far, with dozens of people reported missing.
Areas of south-west Australia have been issued with states of emergency and evacuations – and the blaze doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
But there are lots of ways to donate to those who need help.
Australia’s Red Cross Disaster relief and recovery fund help support evacuation centres and recovery programmes for the affected communities.
Local fire services, like the NSW Rural Fire Service and Queensland Fire Service, are accepting donations directly.
The Salvation Army Australia also have a disaster appeal – who deliver crucial support to local communities as the fires rip through the country.
How can I help the animals and wildlife?
Many Australian fauna and species are in danger of extinction as the fires rage through the country.
With hot, dry conditions and strong winds, the blazes are spreading quickly and are set to continue as weather conditions get worse.
It’s been approximated that over 480 million animals have been killed in the fires.
The RSPCA bushfire appeal is used to protect pets, livestock and wildlife in the affected regions.
Similarly, the World Wildlife Fund is accepting donations to help support conservation activities – especially for koalas.
Is the UK helping Australia with the fires?
UK officials have warned Britons to be aware of the risk of bushfires for people thinking of travelling down under in the new year.
