BEWITCHED Harry Potter fans have recreated key film locations in the Minecraft video game.
The staggeringly detailed project includes a full-scale replica of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Gamers are free to explore the castle, and even take part in lessons, quests and the odd Quidditch match.
The castle even has a Chamber of Secrets, which served as a key location in the second movie.
Iconic characters such as Hagrid and Dumbledore appear inside the castle, bringing the world to life.
The modders behind the project have also recreated other locations from the franchise, including Privet Drive, Diagon Alley and Platform 9 & 3/4.
Die-hard Potter fans at the Floo Network – a team of Minecraft modders – have spent around seven years on the project.
The mod is set to be available by the end of the month, and will be free to download for anyone with the game.
“A little more than two years ago we released a recreation of a number of the locations from the Harry Potter Universe,” the Floo Network wrote.
“Since then, we have been working on expanding and improving that map, creating a Harry Potter-themed RPG map in Vanilla Minecraft.
“We are a very small team consisting primarily of poor students who have spent and continue to spend countless hours making this map.”
Minecraft – the key facts
Here's what you need to know...
- Minecraft is a hugely popular ‘sandbox’ video game released in 2011
- It was created (and later sold) by Swedish developer Markus Persson
- Persson flogged the game to Microsoft for $2.5billion (£1.9billion) in 2014
- Minecraft ranks as the best-selling video game of all time, with over 180million copies sold
- More than 112million players log onto the game at least once a month
- Players explore a blocky and pixellated world where they extract materials and build their own structures
- The game is online, so it’s possible to team up (or compete) with other players in shared worlds
The team has set up a Patreon page where fans of the mod can donate money to the creators for their hard work.
Early images of the Minecraft mod have been revealed through a YouTube trailer.
The locations look very accurate, replicating the exact designs seen in the Harry Potter movies.
It’s undoubtedly one of the most detailed Minecraft mods ever created, and is sure to be a hit with Potter fans around the world.
