How Meghan and Harry could split their time living in UK, Canada and LA as they split from life as senior royals
MEGHAN and Harry are expected to split their time living between the UK, Canada and LA following the announcement that they’re stepping down from their senior royal duties.
The royal pair will begin their “happy and peaceful” new life after dropping their HRH titles- causing many to fear how they will split their time living in different locations.
In the announcement laying out the formalities of Megxit, the palace confirmed that Frogmore Cottage will still be Meghan and Harry’s UK home.
However, they will be repaying the £2.4 million of taxpayer’s money spent refurbishing the property.
The Sussexes have insisted that they will split their time between the UK and Canada – but there are mounting fears that they may not return.
Meghan is currently in Canada with eight-month-old Archie, where it seems the family will set up their new life out of the royal spotlight.
They are expected to move to Canada more permanently following their six-week Christmas holiday in greater Victoria, on Vancouver Island.
HEIR MILES
The Duchess has close ties to Canada, having lived in Toronto for six years while filming the television series Suits.
One of her closest friends, Jessica Mulroney also lives in Toronto – causing many to speculate whether Harry and Meghan will choose to settle there.
Canada can also offer the couple the informality and privacy they desire after stepping down as senior royals and dropping the use of their HRH titles.
In a bid to create a new relationship with media outlets, ditching traditional royal reporters in favour of “specialist media,” “young-up-and-coming” reporters, Canada could be a fresh start for the pair away from the royal limelight.
It also came to light that Harry and Meghan’s two dogs stayed in North America after flying out with them for their Christmas break – which is another clue that they are planning to settle across the Atlantic.
ROYAL FLIGHT
However, an editorial of Canada’s biggest newspaper said Harry and Meghan were not welcome to live there.
It said any move by the couple would violate laws that keep the once-British-ruled country at arm’s length from the UK.
It was also revealed that Meghan was eyeing up an incredible £21 million waterfront dream home in West Vancouver – which could be their permanent residence while they are across the pond.
LA is also a potential place for the Sussexes to begin their new life – as it’s the place where Meghan lived before she met Prince Harry, and where her mum, Doria Ragland, still resides.
However, sources say that the couple would only move to the US once Donald Trump’s presidency ends.
NEW ‘PEACEFUL’ LIFE
A source said: “It’s by no means an immediate thing but there is a long-term plan to end up back in the US with a second home in Canada, where they will also spend a great deal of time.
“The couple used the words North America in their statement about where they planned to live deliberately. It doesn’t pin them down to any one place.”
With the speculation over where the pair will formally settle, many have questioned whether all the potential travel will be feasible.
Meghan and Harry came under scrutiny last year for using four private jets in the space of just 11 days – wracking up expenses as well as negatively effecting the environment.

They faced heavy criticism and were accused of hypocrisy after speaking out about environmental issues, and then using private jets for their jaunts around Europe.
With the couple potentially splitting their time across three locations – concerns have been raised about how they’ll efficiently get back and forth between their homes.
