THE US Space Force has unveiled its new utility uniform – and its camouflage design has sparked hilarious internet memes.
On the force’s official Twitter account, a photo was shared featuring the new US Space Force nametapes, embroidered in blue.
The Friday tweet announced the uniform nametapes have “touched down in the Pentagon.”
In response to a Twitter user’s critical tweet, the USSF explained: “USSF is utilizing current Army/Air Force uniforms, saving costs of designing/producing a new one.
“Members will look like their joint counterparts they’ll be working with, on the ground.”
According to the force, the camo design is not actually needed in space.
The uniform was made to resemble the force’s partners – like the US Air Force and the US Army.
Badges were seen on the arm of the uniform, as well as the chest.
They explained NASA is used for space exploration and the USSF is for protecting space assets and safe access to and from space.
Despite the force defending the uniform, many social media users took to Twitter to express their confusion.
One man tweeted: “I know this is hard to understand, but on the left there is a picture of camouflage and on the right there is a picture of space. Study these carefully until you can see the difference.”
The tweet was accompanied with a picture of a basic camouflage patter next to a photo of the color black, signifying the darkness in space.
Another Twitter user joked: “Yeah, but what about when they need to fight on Endor?”
Endor is a fictional place, on a forested moon secluded in a remote corner of the galaxy, in Star Wars.
The lack of space-like colors prompted another use to share a photo of a blue shirt with what appears to be stars and galaxy’s scattered across it.
The tweet read: “Really disappointed with the green.”
@Surely a pattern like this would have given more camouflage in space.”
Other twitter users said the force “missed an opportunity” and shared a photo of Star Trek uniforms, from the fictitious organization Starfleet.
The US Space Force was established on December 20, 2019.
On that historical day, President Donald J. Trump announced: “Today [also] marks another landmark achievement as we officially inaugurate the newest branch of the military [United States Space Force], this is a very big and important moment.”
