He will be joined by footballers and celebrities as well as a house band — in a format inspired by James Corden’s Late Late Show in the US.

Jack Whitehall, Harry Styles and a raft of Premier League players past and present including David Beckham have already been lined up to appear.

It comes after 6ft 7in ex-Liverpool and Stoke striker Peter, who retired last year, was snapped up byCorden’s production company Fulwell 73.

A source said: “Peter has signed a rolling one-year deal with the BBC — and big things are expected.

“His podcast has shown his star quality and he has an array of unlikely celeb pals who are all happy to appear on his sofa.

“As well as his inaugural show starting in June, which is featured around the Euro 2020 tournament, he is being lined up as a regular chat show host in the mould of Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross.”

Next week, viewers will see Crouchy — famed for his robot goal celebration — front Sport Relief’s Football Stars In Bad Cars in which Premier League players have to swap their £200,000 motors for a fourth-hand hatchback for a day.
