Mum splashes nearly £1k on ‘Kidchella’ party for her daughter’s seventh birthday
A MUM splashed nearly £1,000 on a ‘Kidchella’ birthday party for her daughter complete with a Ferris wheel and an ice cream van.
Amy Ward wanted to make her daughter, Taleah’s, seventh birthday party one to remember, but she struggled over a theme after her little girl didn’t want anything too childish.
After racking her brains, the 32-year-old was inspired by her love of outdoor music festival Coachella, so decided to throw a ‘Kidchella’ themed party kids and adults could both enjoy.
Amy, from Australia, looked for ideas on Pinterest on how she could turn her back garden into a chic festival vibe.
In total she spent £963 on decorations, food and accessories, with the most expensive item a bell tent from eBay.
She told Femail: “I added my own touch and elements to appeal to the kids and make it enjoyable for the little ones as well as the grownups.”
Amy got giant balloon sculptures in earthy tones, put up desert-themed decorations and sourced jute rugs, table runners, scatter pillows and table decor for the party last month.
While she spent a lot on some of the big ticket items, she saved money by picking up vases and plates for 50p each, the milk bottles were £2.50 and the tablecloth was £1 per metre.
The kids enjoyed flower crown making and face painting, but the piece-de-resistance was a giant Ferris wheel which Amy’s husband made from oversized pipe cleaners, which she decorated with ribbons.
She said Taleah was over the moon with her party, and she was in full festival attire in a crocheted outfit with tassels, with Amy calling her a ‘boho princess’.
Sharing snaps of the incredible birthday party on Instagram, Amy said: “What a day! Taleah celebrated turning 7 with a #Kidchella themed party with all of her closest family and friends!
“We had Ferris Wheels (made by my amazing husband), flower crown making, face painting, lots of glitter, laughs, food and fun.
“I’m so happy with how it all came together, definitely a favourite to organise.
“It came together so well in the end, and to see the smiles on all the girls faces was worth it!”
Everything right down to the cake and crockery was in the same earthy colour scheme, and Amy had themed cookies with dream catchers and teepee designs.
Despite spending a small fortune on the party, Amy had tips for how to keep costs low.
She advised working out a theme with your kids in advance, so you can slowly buy accessories as you go.
Amy added: “Not everything has to be expensive – it’s just trying to think about what is local to you in order to be creative.
“We also bought lots of accessories and decorations, which I’m sure will help for events in the long run.”
