IT’S NO secret that most women look for someone tall, dark and handsome when it comes to a man – tall being the operative word.
And now blokes are ensuring that they fit the bill by having limb lengthening surgery to make them look taller – and it costs thousands of pounds.
In the past year 30 men have visited The LimbplastX Institute in Vegas in Las Vegas that offers the limb-lengthening treatment.
The procedure, which promises to add up to six inches to your height, costs upwards of £57,180 ($75,000).
The surgery involves cutting open the leg bones and inserting a stretching device, and following the surgery patients are given an external remote control where a push of a button increases their height by 1mm a day.
Dr. Kevin Debiparshad, who is a consultant at the clinic, says that while the procedure is normally pain free there is a risk of infection and a decrease in athletic ability.
This man was also keen to increase his height with the £57,000 surgery[/caption] The procedure was clearly a success, with the man gaining several inches in height[/caption]However, despite this Dr Debiparshad says that business is booming.
Speaking to Business Insider, he explained that his patients are “fairly successful people career-wise, but they have feelings of lacking.
“They think if they can modify this one complaint, it can make their life complete in some way.”
The doctor says that over 90 per cent of those seeking the treatment have been men, with an average height of 5’6” looking to boost it by three inches.
Speaking to the Mirror, he added: “The desire to appear taller, particularly for men, has always been a hot topic in modern day society and social norms.
“While that is certainly a driver in the popularity to increase their height, reasons for cosmetic limb-lengthening vary, ranging from a boost in self-confidence to improved physical capabilities — all of which change lives.”
