Head-to-head
England generally have the whip hand over Scotland in rugby matches between the two sides, with 75 wins to the Scots’ 43 and 19 draws.
But Scotland have had the better of things over the past couple of years, starting with a convincing 25-13 win last time England visited Murrayfield in 2018.
And in last year’s Six Nations, the Scots came from 31-0 down to the brink of achieving their first win at Twickenham since 1983.
In an incredible second half revival, Scotland powered into a 38-31 lead before George Ford crossed the line four minutes after the 80 were up to earn England a 38-38 draw.
What they said
England head coach Eddie Jones on Scotland: “They’re a niggly side, aren’t they?
“[There was] the scene two years ago when they tried to goad a couple of players. And they were successful.
“Historically they’ve done that through the ages. That’s the way they stay in the game and they’re good at it.
Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend: “We were proud of parts of our performance in Dublin at a very difficult venue.
“The challenge for the squad is to replicate that level and take our chances when they come, in order to win tight games.
“England are an excellent team whose run to the Rugby World Cup final was no fluke.
“They will be smarting from their opener in Paris and Eddie will have them primed to come to Edinburgh and put in an improved performance.”
