FORMER Speaker John Bercow told Chris Evans that he will NEVER go on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! because it’s “too trashy”.
The 57-year-old politician served as Speaker of the House of Commons from 2009 to 2019.
Earlier today, he appeared on Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Sky to promote his new autobiography Unspeakable.
Grilling his guest, DJ Chris asked John whether he’d been scouted by I’m A Celeb producers after rumours swirled that he was taking part in the 2019 series.
The MP denied ever getting a call about going into the ITV jungle, adding that he didn’t want to ever take part in the reality show.
He explained: “No, I didn’t want it. There was a talent agent, Chris, who phoned me up and said she understood that I was considering going on the programme.
“And I said: ‘Well, I’m sorry, but you’re quite wrong about that. I’m not considering it. And I wouldn’t do so under any circumstances at any time.'”
When Chris asked why he wouldn’t do the show, John continued: “Because I think it’s a trashy program. I think it would trash my brand.”
“If people want to do it, then good luck to them. And some of the people who’ve gone on it are really good people. It doesn’t appeal to me.”
He added: “Actually, I’ll give you another reason, I’m very into self protection.
“And the idea of going in the jungle and taking some risks or experiencing extreme discomfort or horrible taste from having to eat something really disgusting is not for me.
“It’s not only undignified, I think it’s really unpleasant.
“And if you have to be honest about yourself and with yourself, it’s not me.”

Despite John’s firm views on I’m A Celeb, other MPs have jumped at the chance to appear on the show in the past.
