CALLOUS thieves stole a charity box containing a few pence from a church after using a child’s gravestone to break in.
Rev Roland Barnes has blasted the “morally empty” crooks behind the theft at St David’s Church in Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales.

The vicar revealed that the raiders used a piece of a child’s gravestone to smash a window and get in.
He said: “Its rather sad that people feel desperate enough to do things like that, unless they are totally morally empty.
“I wonder if they feel any remorse or guilt.
“It’s ridiculous because they’ve done over £500 of damage to the church to steal a few pence from the charity box.”
Raiders smashed through a window at the rear of the church — despite it having a strengthening steel bar across.

Rev Barnes added: “They used a piece of a child’s gravestone and then smashed the door into the body of the church.
“We are insured but we have a £500 excess.
“So whatever happens, we’ll be £500 out of pocket.”
