SPENDING more time on a computer and want to boost your productivity? Learning to split-screen on Windows is a key trick.
We’ve put together a handy guide on how to go split-screen – so you can have two windows open at once.
How to split screen on Windows 10
Splitting your screen on Windows 10 is really easy.
That’s because Microsoft has built a dedicated feature called ‘Snap Assist’ to do exactly that.
First, check that the feature is activated:
- 1. Click Start
- 2. Open Settings
- 3. Click System
- 4. Choose Multitasking
- 5. Make sure Snap Windows is ON
Once that’s all set up, click and drag your chosen window to the left or right side of the screen.
This will make it snap-and-fill that half of the screen, leaving the other half free for another snapped window.
If you have a very large and high-resolution monitor, you might want to split your screen into four parts.
This works in the same way, but you drag windows to each of the four corners of the screen – rather than the left or right.
Once you’ve got snapped windows, you can drag the dividing line between them to change their respective sizes.
How to split screen on Windows 7 or 8
Splitting your screen on Windows 7 or 8 isn’t as streamlined, but it’s still possible.
First, open two applications – like Google Chrome and Microsoft Word.
Then for Windows 7 users, right-click on the taskbar and choose ‘Show windows side-by-side’.
This will open the two windows next to each other.
You can then use the ‘Snap Assist’ feature to snap windows to the left or right of the screen.
For Windows 8 users, make one of the apps full-screen.
Then put your mouse cursor in the top-left corner, and click and drag it to the side of the screen you want it.
Again, you can use the dividing line between the two windows to adjust their size.
