Speaking on Good Morning Britain earlier today, 55-year-old Piers referenced the story as he told viewers: “A shout out to Ed Sheeran, he owns a bar in Notting Hill called Bertie Blossoms – a fine place if you haven’t been, well worth going to.
“He co-owns it and he’s declined to use any taxpayer, furlough or loan money to keep all of the staff on the books, they’re all going to keep getting paid by Ed Sheeran.”
Lashing out, he continued: “There’s a message there, isn’t there? For the Beckhams of the world – not to be a drain on the taxpayer right now.
“So good on Ed Sheeran, whose current worth is estimated at half of the Beckhams.
“He’s done the right thing, I think, because he can afford to.”
Bertie Blossoms — co-owned with Ed’s manager Stuart Camp — was forced to close in March as the coronavirus pandemic struck.
It meant no work for Ed’s employees, who include bar and waiting staff, chefs and kitchen assistants.
Bosses can currently reclaim 80 per cent of staff wages from the government, but the singer’s representative told us that Ed will be doing no such thing.
They explained: “The business, co-owned by Ed Sheeran and Stuart Camp, is not, and will not, be accessing any Government scheme of any kind, including furloughing, grants, loans and so on.”
It comes as a stark contrast to Victoria, who received huge backlash when it was revealed that her fashion brand had furloughed 30 staff despite her family’s £335million fortune.

The Sun Online previously revealed that bighearted Ed is also ordering food delivery from his local pub to support the business.
Ed and his wife Cherry were regulars at the country inn, The Dennington Queen, before the nation was plunged into isolation.
The singer, who is worth £160million, is doing his bit to help the watering hole survive by ordering classic pub meals such as fish and chips, pies, curry, and lasagne for around £8.
A source told us at the time: “Ed is very much part of village life and is doing his bit by ordering food from the pub to help the business stay afloat.”
