EMMERDALE’s Robron fans are in for a treat tonight as Robert Sugden makes a return tonight – in letter form.
In tonight’s episode of the soap’s lockdown specials, Cain and Aaron Dingle are holed up together at their cottage when a letter from the prison arrives for Aaron.
Fans of the couple were left devastated last year when actor Ryan Hawley quit the soap and Robert was sent to prison for murder for a minimum of 14 years.
He brutally cut his family off and transferred to a new prison and issued divorce proceedings.
It sent Aaron on course for a breakdown where he was almost robbed after attending a sex party – and the letter threatens to bring it all back up.
Realising it is from Robert, Cain fears it will send Aaron on a downward spiral again and hides the letter in a magazine.
But it all kicks off later in the week when a drunk Cain lets slip that Aaron has received a letter from Robert.
When Cain can’t remember where he’s put it, Aaron rages at him and makes some harsh remarks about him and Moira.
Later, Cain attempts to apologise but still struggles to open up and talk to Aaron about his feelings.
Speaking about why his character Cain hides the letter, actor Jeff Hordley said: “He knows Aaron well and he fears that in Cain’s words he will ‘overthink things and go down a rabbit hole’ – which is a quote from the script.

Speaking about why Cain struggles to express his feelings, Jeff added: “It is just not in Cain’s DNA to open up to people, but in this episode Aaron carefully constructs a way to try and get him to open up.”
