The money-saving expert furiously wrote online today: “Disgusting scum. I’ve already had upset messages from friends today who’ve seen this scam advert trading (wrongly obviously) on the fact I’ve died.”
In an advert featured on the Guardian newspaper website, an image of Martin is shown with the wording: “Breaking news: Farewell Martin Lewis. The UK is in shock.”
Above it makes clear it is an advertisement that has been placed alongside the Guardian’s latest news stories.
One of Martin’s followers alerted the finance guru to the hoax, saying: In the @guardian Guardian now. Is this genuine? Advert for investing in bitcoin.”
It’s not the first time Martin – who hosts The Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV – has suffered at the hands of a cruel online hoax.
In April he appeared on This Morning shaken by another scam that used the same headline – Farewell Martin Lewis – with a different picture.
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video link, 47-year-old Martin said: “I’ve just found out there’s another one of those adverts running saying I’m dead.
“They’re scam adverts using the fact that I have died, which is just horrendous.”

Martin lightly chuckled as he continued: “I clearly haven’t, obviously.
“But just to say if you see it, please report it because a lot of people are getting disturbed by it.
“We all need to act together to try and stop these horrendous scammers.”
He continued: “Right now, to be saying someone has died when they haven’t as a form of advertising… It just beggars belief.”
