A BODY has been found in bushes alongside a major road in Sussex today, sparking a major investigation.
Sussex Police have launched an enquiry into the “unexplained” death and have cordoned off the area.
Officers were alerted to the body – which was found in bushes alongside the busy Crawley Avenue – at 1.04pm on Monday, June 15.
A local dog walker revealed that a noticeable smell had emerged in the area for several days.
A spokesperson from Sussex Police said: “At 1.04pm, Sussex Police were alerted to a body near Southgate roundabout on the A23, Crawley.
‘UNEXPLAINED DEATH’
“Officers are conducting a number of enquiries at the location and cordon is currently in place.
“Lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances, including identification, are ongoing and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.”
Officers at the scene were joined by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Sussex Police have confirmed the body was found, but is yet to be identified, The Argus reports.
