HOUSE Speaker Nancy Pelosi slammed former White House adviser John Bolton for choosing “money over patriotism” by publishing a book about his time working for President Donald Trump.
Pelosi hit out at Bolton for disclosing information about the president in a book he could sell rather than during Trump’s impeachment trial.
Discussing Bolton’s bombshell new book, The Room Where it Happened, on The Washington Post Live, Pelosi said: “He decided to hold out to sell his book rather than provide what he knew to be so about the problems of the president of the United States.
“He chose a cash register over democracy in terms of accountability and transparency in government,” Pelosi added.
Trump and members of his administration also condemned the book, which was published earlier this week.
The president has claimed that his former adviser’s book contains classified information, and called Bolton a “washed up creepster” and “a lowlife” who should be jailed for publishing the memoir.
The book reportedly includes a handful of questionable tales about Trump’s time in office – including an assertion that the president “pleaded” with Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win reelection.
The book also claims that Trump only held two intelligence briefings a week, “and in most of those, he spoke at greater length than the briefers, often on matters completely unrelated to the subjects at hand.”
Trump’s camp went to great lengths to attempt to block the book from being published. The Justice Department filed a restraining order against its publication. However, a judge denied the request to keep the memoir off shelves.
In a Fox News interview that aired on Tuesday, the day of the book’s publication, Trump said his former adviser was a “stupid guy” and a “guy with no heart.”
The president explained that he fired Bolton in September of 2019 after he served just 16 months on the job.
“I fired him- and I didn’t think it was a big deal, and I wasn’t around him very much,” Trump said.
“But what he did do is he took classified information and he published it during a presidency,” he added. “I believe that he’s a criminal and I believe, frankly, he should go to jail for that.
Pelosi isn’t the only Democrat airing grievances with Bolton over the decision to get himself a book deal instead of testifying during Trump’s impeachment trial.

In an appearance on Good Morning American earlier this week, George Stephanoloulos asked Bolton whether he would comply with a Democratic subpoena to testify about the information in his book should he receive one.
The former national security adviser answered by stressing that Americans have to power to vote Trump out of office.
“Let’s see what they decide to do,” Bolton said, referring to a possible subpoena from Dems. “Look, let’s be clear, the primary way that we reign presidents in is not through impeachment, it’s through elections. And, you know, what they do next, obviously, is up to them.”
