Tom managed to grab a branch and broke his fall 30ft from the quarry floor.
He clung on for more than two hours with two smashed vertebrae, a collapsed lung, five broken ribs and a sprained ankle until firefighters arrived to rescue him in Chatham, Kent.
Tom said he felt lucky to be alive — but was distraught at losing his new £160 Armani mesh trainers in the fall.

“I was smashing my head, back and legs all the way down then managed to wrap my legs round a tree. The pain was unreal.
“I’ll be more careful about where I go for a wee in future.”
