Umtiti was not with the squad for the Champions League loss after being placed in isolation.
Barcelona confirmed the news in a statement – which revealed Umtiti was not exhibiting symptoms.
It read: “After the PCR tests carried out on Thursday, Samuel Umtiti has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The player is asymptomatic, in good health and isolating at home.
“The club has informed the relevant sporting and health authorities as well as tracing all the people who have had contact with the player so that they can undergo the corresponding PCR tests.”
Fortunately for Barcelona, Umtiti was not due to be in the squad due to his persistent knee injury.
Having not travelled to Portugal for the Champions League quarter-final clash, Umtiti was unable to spread the virus further.
However, Quique Setien would have loved to have been able to call on Umtiti for the game.
