ANDERSON Cooper got teary-eyed after a coronavirus patient congratulated him following the surrogate birth of his son Wyatt.
The CNN anchorman announced the birth of his son back in April.
Anderson, 53, couldn’t hold back his tears after co-worker Randi Kaye interviewed a healthcare worker who could potentially lose her hands as she battled the deadly coronavirus but took a moment to congratulate him for the birth of his son.
As she lay in her hospital bed, the healthcare worker told Randi: “On my behalf, could you please congratulate Anderson Cooper on his baby? I’m happy that he has a baby and that he’s so cute.”
As Randi showed the anchorman the sweet shout-out, he quickly took off his glasses to wipe away the tears.
Randi then assured him: “That was the only time she smiled, when she was talking about you and Wyatt.
“She has been in this dark place, she’s been on a ventilator for months, she could lose her hands, she hasn’t seen her kids in months … and it’s been a very scary time for her and she hasn’t had any visitors but when we talked about you, she really lit up and she’s really clung to that.”
The new father assured her that he would reach out to her and talk to her.
Anderson had previously revealed that he “cries at things he never cried at before” after welcoming first son Wyatt.
He went on of his ex Benjamin, who will co-parent Wyatt with him: “And Benjamin, I’ve never seen him cry, but I couldn’t believe how weepy he gets with Wyatt.
“I find myself being overwhelmed with emotion, and it’s a lovely thing.”
As for his relationship with his ex-partner and father of his son, he assured that they are not together but are co-parenting successfully.
He even revealed that their son will call him Daddy, while he calls Benjamin papa.
“I don’t really have any family so my friends become my family,” he said.
“When I was a little kid it was just my mom and my brother, and my mom was not the most parental person. I wish some adult – after my dad died – had stepped in and just been like, ‘I’ll take you to a ball game or let’s go for lunch’, but no one ever did that.”
Who is Benjamin Maisani, Anderson Cooper’s on again/off again boyfriend?
Benjamin Maisani is a businessman who owns a number of properties and nightclubs.
The pair started dating back in 2009, and were together for nine years before confirming they had split back in 2018.
Despite being together from 2009, they only went public with their relationship in 2015.
They called it quits after it was revealed that Cooper had taken at least five trips to Dallas, where he had been spending time with 33-year-old doctor Victor Lopez.

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, he added: “So I thought, the more people that love my son and are in his life, I’m all for that.
“My ex is a great guy, and it’s good to have two parents. He’s French so he will speak French to the kid and he will be “papa” and I’ll be “daddy”.”
