Is Planet Earth: A Celebration a repeat?
Not entirely – footage from previous episodes of Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II will be used, but with new narration from David Attenborough.
Hans Zimmer, an award winning composer, is the ear behind the musical score.
He’s worked on The Lion King, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and the nature shows that the footage is being taken from.
Discover Wildlife have reported that the following eight extracts of footage that will be used in tonight’s show:
Planet Earth II
- Desert lions vs giraffe in Namibia
- Andean flamingoes in Chile
- Mother snow leopard and cub in the Himalayas
- Racer snakes vs marine iguanas in Galapagos

Blue Planet II
- Durfing bottlenose dolphins on the East Cape of South Africa
- Octopus vs pyjama shark off the coast of southern Africa
- Trevallies and seabirds in the Indian Ocean
- Gatherings of orca and humpback whales in the fjords of northern Norway
What’s it about?
The episode combines some memorable moments from David Attenborough’s backlog of BBC One nature documentaries.
As the name suggests, it’s a celebration of life in our planet and the work the BBC and its experts have done to showcase this.
The new composition is performed in part by the BBC Concert Orchestra, while Brit and Mercury award winner Dave features on the music too.

All musicians worked with social distancing in mind.
Dave, who plays the grand piano, has spoken about the show, saying: “This is a programme where nature and music come together, so it was only right that I lent my talent, my time, and my attention to this project.”
The programme is one hour long and can be viewed on BBC iPlayer afterwards.
