EU Brexit talks chief Michel Barnier broke Covid guidelines as he dined in five-star Westminster bar
MICHEL Barnier’s team broke Britain’s Covid rules as they dined in one of Westminster’s most expensive bars earlier this week.
A witness sitting on the next table said the EU’s chief negotiator was dining at the 5-star Conrad Hotel with about a dozen of his team members.
It breaks Covid rules that limit groups meeting indoors to just six people.
And from Monday the meeting would have attracted a hefty £100 fine on each of the diners as strict new laws come into effect that legally limits social gatherings to six.
A source close to Mr Barnier insisted he “always follows all Covid guidelines strictly” and pointed out that he caught the virus himself.
But they did not deny that he was in a group of more than six.
It comes a week after we reported Barnier could be sidelined by European Union leaders in a bid to break the Brexit deadlock.

EU leaders want to speed up the UK’s departure from the bloc.
They hope that by getting involved it will allow Mr Barnier, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, and his UK counterpart Lord Frost to agree to the details of the move.
