HUNGRY diners have gone takeaway mad since the start of lockdown – with northerners noshing the most pizza and southerners tops for fish and chips.

Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, said: “Those extra 100 million delivery meals will be worth in the region of £1billion. That money is a lifeline for troubled restaurants.”
Our fast food bill in the past six months totals 150 million pizzas, 41,000 tonnes of chips and 42 million curries.
Data trends reveal the types of food each UK region prefers. Northerners are the greediest — with Mancunians ordering twice as much overall as Brummies.
The North loves Italian grub, with those in the South including London have gone batty for battered fish. And Domino’s sold a cheese and tomato pizzas every second.
Birmingham ordered the most Indian food per head, said Deliveroo — which is recruiting 15,000 staff to meet record demand across the UK. And thanks to home baking, everyone has gone bananas.
Sales of the fruity ingredient have soared 66 per cent, said Deliveroo, which also delivers supermarket orders. Even breakfast is booming, with sales of coffee doubling.
