Coronavirus and Christmas has impacted families up and down the UK, with many needing to tighten their belts, meaning treats like meals out are a rarity.
A mum shared a snap of the menu ASDA are offering for free to kids this December[/caption]But any mums who wanted to take their kids out for a slap up meal without worrying about the purse strings can head to ASDA, where children can eat for free.
The supermarket is dishing out free food for under-16s at all of its 216 stores, with the offer running until December 31st.
The child in question simply needs to be with an adult – who doesn’t need to buy anything to qualify for the offer.
A mum shared a snap of the meals being served at her local supermarket, as she praised the chain’s campaign.
Kids can choose from a range of meals included chicken nuggets, fish fingers and lasagne[/caption]She shared a snap of the menu to Facebook group Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains, which includes fish fingers, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, and lasagne, with every meal served with a piece of fruit, a Capri Sun, water or milk.
She said: “Through ASDA’s ‘Fight Hunger, Create Change’ programme, ASDA Cafés are offering free hot and cold meals to children under the age of 16, during opening hours, every day throughout December, except for Christmas Day.
“Better-still, to the best of my knowledge, there is no minimum spend required, i.e. no purchase of any other item of food or drink to qualify for a free kids meal. Just head to the café with an adult and ask for your free meal.
“There is however a maximum of one meal, per child, per day. In addition, an adult must be present with the child (or children), when asking for a free meal (or meals).
We know that it’s been a really difficult year for families across the UK

“Lastly, may I also kindly ask you all not to abuse ASDA’s generosity, especially as meals are subject to availability.
“This initiative is designed for those that are genuinely in need and are reliant on food banks, right now. Please be respectful.”
The post has racked up hundreds of likes as parents praised the initiative, with one mum calling it “amazing”.
Another mum said: “Amaze we need to go asda.”
Someone else wrote: “Many parents can’t even afford to feed themselves at home let alone pay for a meal out, can you imagine the lifeline this actually is and how many struggling parents it will actually help??”
This mum commented: “Wow if this is true then it could make a huge difference to people struggling over the winter season. I hope that people who don’t really need it don’t abuse it or take advantage.”
Hundreds of parents praised the initiative online, calling it a ‘lifeline’[/caption]While this person posted: “We can’t discriminate I work in asda cafe it’s a good opportunity to help struggling families so please don’t abuse and be kind to the staff extra work to help those in need.”
Agreeing, someone else added: “Great idea well done asda but yeh please people don’t abuse it.”
Commenting on the campaign, Richard Dent, ASDA’s Vice President for Fresh Food said: “We know that it’s been a really difficult year for families across the UK with many having to turn to food banks and local community groups for support which is why we want to support as many children as we can during the festive period by offering them a meal in one of our cafes.”
For any parents in Tier 3, the ASDA café will be offering a takeaway service so mums can still redeem the offer.
