Can I kiss at midnight on New Year’s Eve in Tier 4?
It’s a tradition to have a quick kiss at midnight to bring in the new year on December 31.
But as we know, Brits are currently living under tier restrictions because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Tier 4 – the restriction bracket which is essentially a lockdown – means that you cannot mix with anyone indoors who is outside of your household or support bubble.
Even if you do meet up with one person from a different household outdoors – which is allowed – you must keep your distance. So a cheeky kiss is unfortunately off the cards.
The Government also says that people in Tier 4 must stay in their homes to help combat the spread of the adapted virus.
So, if you live in the same household as your friends, family, or partner – feel free to give them a smooch when the clock strikes midnight.
But you can’t kiss anyone outside of your household or bubble.
According to English and German folklore, the first person you encounter in a new year — and the nature of this encounter — sets the tone for the rest of the year.
So if you have got someone to peck this New Year’s Eve, make sure it’s the right person!
What are the rules on New Year’s Eve in Tier 4?
People should take “personal responsibility” and stay at home this New Year’s Eve to avoid spreading Covid-19, the Health Secretary said.
With the NHS under increasing pressure, Matt Hancock said “we cannot let up”.
Around 20 million more people in England entered the toughest level of restrictions on the morning of December 31.
This means three-quarters of the country are in Tier 4.

In Tier 4 areas, people are not allowed to mix with other households indoors or in most outdoor venues, although an individual can meet one other person in an open public space.
Unlike the initial ‘Christmas bubble’ plans the Government made in November, there is no exemptions to the restrictions this New Year’s Eve.
