MICK Philpott wants a reunion behind bars with his ex-wife as he serves life for killing six of their children in an arson attack at their home.
The 65-year-old dad has reportedly told friends he wants Mairead, 39, to visit him in HMP Wakefield, West Yorks.
His ex, who divorced him in 2014, has been living in a bail hostel since being freed from HMP Send, Surrey last month.
Mick and Mairead Philpott were jailed for manslaughter for killing six of their children in an arson attack at the family home in Allenton, Derby in May 2012.
The six victims – Duwayne, 13, his sister Jade, ten, and brothers, John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six and Jayden, five – perished as fire swept through the home.
Philpott hatched a plan with his wife to incriminate his ex-lover while posing as a hero who saved his children.
But the planned rescue went tragically wrong when he was beaten back by the flames as the blaze – started with petrol poured through a letterbox – got out of control in seconds.
Mick is serving life but Mairead tasted freedom after serving eight-and-a-half years behind bars.
But, the 65-year-old told a friend during a recent prison call of his hopes to be reunited with his ex-wife, The Mirror reports.
“Mick’s desperate to see her. He’s never really accepted they are separated,” the friend said.
“He wants her to come to visit him in prison and is talking about filling in the paperwork.
“He asked me to contact her family to find out how to get in touch with her but I don’t want anything to do with it.
“Anyway, he’s deluded if he thinks the authorities would allow it,” the friend said.
Philpott was told he must serve at least 15 years before being eligible for parole.
Mairead is subject to strong bail conditions, which are understood to include not being allowed to contact her ex-husband or visit Derby.
She is living in an all-girls hostel in the south of England, which costs the taxpayer £600-a-week.
The killer will stay in the accommodation for up to 12 weeks as staff and a charity help her find her own place to live as well as assess her for jobs and college courses.
The 39-year-old has to adhere to a curfew and will be tested for drugs and alcohol, and her room will also undergo searches for contraband items.
She will be offered a group of ready-made friends now she’s free so she doesn’t feel vulnerable or lonely, according to reports.

She said: “Mairead Philpott should be serving a whole life sentence instead of being freed halfway through it.”
She described the crime as “horrifying” and said that “it will never, ever be forgotten in Derby”.
