Analysing the absolute best possible Dream Team XI this season
Nothing like an international break to induce the most generic content possible.
At the risk of tanking the absolute base level, we’ve figured out the best Dream Team XI of the season so far.
Needless to say, all the players have provided healthy returns and then some for gaffers in 2020/21.
But let’s take a closer look at each individual…

GOALKEEPER: Ederson (£4.2m)
Table toppers Man City have conceded 11 goals fewer than second and third placed teams and as the custodian of the best defence in the Premier League it makes sense that Ederson would be leading the away among keepers.
The Brazilian has kept 22 clean sheets in all competitions.
DEFENDER: Joao Cancelo (£6.0m)
Fair warning, you might lose count of how many Etihad residents have made the cut.
Cancelo is the only defender to breach the 200-point mark at this stage and he has Pep Guardiola to thank — the Portugal international has been given almost a free role from full-back at times.
The ex-Juventus man has acquired five Star Man awards.
DEFENDER: Harry Maguire (£5.2m)
A recent spate of 0-0 draws killed Man United’s buzz somewhat but it did wonders for their captain.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have improved defensively as the season has progressed and Maguire plays more minutes than 99% of outfield players, resulting in an impressive points tally of 172.
DEFENDER: Ruben Dias (£4.5m)
Arguably the best signing of the season.
Pep Guardiola seemed to have a serious problem on his hands early in the season (remember that?) with an error-prone, slightly disorganised defence.
But once Dias settled into his new surroundings and cemented himself as the leader, they became airtight.
He’s earned 163 points.
DEFENDER: John Stones (£5.3m)
Man City have only conceded seven goals in all competitions when Stones has been on the pitch this season.
His revival has been one of the stories of the season and he’s struck up a formidable partnership with Dias, with whom he seems to have established a genuine kinship — which is why it’s fitting he also has 163 points.
MIDFIELDER: Bruno Fernandes (£4.9m)
Man United’s talisman has been in a bracket of his own among Dream Team midfielders this season.
With an ownership of 74.1%, he’s one of the most-popular players in Dream Team history.
The bulk of his mammoth total of 255 points stems from his relentless output: 23 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.
MIDFIELDER: Kevin De Bruyne (£6.5m)
The Belgian playmaker has missed some games through injury and his misplaced his shooting boots for a few weeks but his undoubted class will always shine through.
His ability to cause chaos in the opposition’s box with a swish of his right foot remains his most potent ability and it’s probably time we started talking about his place among the all-time great Premier League midfielders.
With 167 points at this stage, he will be targeting a double century before the season’s end given City’s schedule.
MIDFIELDER: Phil Foden (£4.3m)
If last season wasn’t quite Foden’s breakout season then 2020/21 definitely has been.
Guardiola has previously faced criticism for depriving a young talent of minutes but he’s often turned to City’s wonderkid in big fixtures and situations this campaign.
Such has been his progression, it wouldn’t be that much of a surprise to see him start for England at the European Championship.
Foden has 11 goals and nine assists in Dream Team this season, making up a sizeable chunk of his 163 points.
FORWARD: Harry Kane (£6.7m)
Surely only Fernandes can compete with Kane for the major individual awards in English football this season.
Jose Mourinho’s football hasn’t always been the most ambitious but that hasn’t stopped Spurs’ No10 becoming a playmaker/poacher hybrid.
He’s currently leading the race for the Golden Boot and has more league assists than anyone else — something we haven’t seen since Luis Suarez’s outrageous 2013/14 campaign.
Kane has amassed a ginormous 290 points after 26 Game Weeks.
FORWARD: Mohamed Salah (£5.8m)
Such is the standard Salah has set for himself since joining Liverpool, some may feel he hasn’t been particularly good this season and yet he’s bagged 25 goals in all competitions with plenty of games still to play.
The Egyptian forward is simply irrepressible, plundering goals even when the defending champions’ season seemed to be going up in smoke.
With 210 points he is the fifth-best player in Dream Team currently — not bad for a player who has supposedly been ‘below par’.
FORWARD: Marcus Rashford (£4.7m)
The final inductee may be the most surprisingly of the lot.
Rashford has blown hot and cold but his tally of 215 points tells us that he’s hot streak have been scolding.
You can’t sniff at 18 goals and 12 assists, especially when you consider he doesn’t take penalties.
