Who is Iceland’s Eurovision entry Daoi & Gagnamagnio?
Daoi Freyr, who performs with his band Gagnamagnio, is an Icelandic musician.
Daoi was due to perform the song ‘Think About Things’ at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest before the event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But the new pop sensation wouldn’t have been disappointed as the tune became an international success.
It’s had more than 79MILLION streams on Spotify and reached No.34 in the UK chart, making it the first Eurovision entry to reach the top 40 in six years.
The song also reached No.3 in Belgium and Ireland and was a No.1 hit in Iceland – and some have called it the greatest Eurovision song never to take part in the contest.
Discussing the tune and the cancellation of Eurovision in an interview with the Evening Standard, Daoi said: “If this is gonna be my biggest song and I can keep making music for the rest of my life, I’m fine with that.
“Eurovision being cancelled didn’t ruin everything – all that was ruined was a good party.”
Daoi is now aiming to become Iceland’s first Eurovision winner, but he will need to overcome a semi-final on May 20 to reach the showpiece event in Rotterdam.
Despite having to qualify, he’s still one of the favourites for the competition after the success of last year’s tune.

Why aren’t Daoi & Gagnamagnio performing live?
Daoi isn’t performing live at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest after a member of his band contracted coronavirus.
But he will still compete as the organisers have agreed to use rehearsal footage as their entry.
Daoi told his Instagram: “We are very happy with the [recorded] performance and super excited for you all to see it.”
