My brother cut me out of his wedding photos because wouldn’t stick to dress code – but why should I buy something new?
A WOMAN has been labelled a “brat” for outright refusing to follow her brother’s request to wear pink or blue on his wedding day, and she refuses to acknowledge that she’s in the wrong.
The 18-year-old woman revealed in a now-viral Reddit threat that her brother and his new bride had advised visitors to wear fuschia or sky blue on the wedding day.
The groom’s sister decided to ignore the dress code and wear a black dress instead[/caption]“For whatever reason, they put on the invites that they wanted the guests to wear certain colours,” she wrote.
“I asked my brother about it and he said it was just something he and his fiance wanted and thought it would be fun to have a colour-coordinated wedding.
“The problem I have with this is that I only wear black and white. Like, I literally do not own any clothing that is not black, white or a combination of the two.”
The woman went on to explain that she doesn’t own any clothes that are blue or bright pink, which she warned her brother about.
Despite this, her brother told her that she has plenty of time to find something to fit the colour scheme. But she wasn’t having it.
“It was like he has no care for the fact that I don’t wear those colours at all,” she complained.
Her mother even offered to take her shopping to find something that she could wear on the day, telling her “a few hours is not going to kill” her. The poster said she “hated everything” she tried on but ended up buying a few options.
Despite her mother helping her hunt down dresses that were the appropriate colours, the young woman wore her favourite black dress instead.
She continued: “The morning of the wedding I refused to put either thing on. I had brought my favourite black dress that was more than nice enough for any wedding and decided to wear that instead.
“Both my mom and dad told me to put on something else, but I refused and eventually my parents just dropped it and told me they didn’t want to fight about it anymore.”
When the 18-year-old and her parents arrived at the venue for pictures, her brother told her that she wouldn’t be involved in any of the larger group shots with the wedding party and the rest of the family.
I really don’t think I did anything wrong because my brother’s request was stupid from the beginning.
She was allowed in pictures with just their immediate family but she would stand out too much in other group shots as she was the only person who didn’t turn up in the suggested colours.
The woman said she thinks it was the brides decision so “called my brother out on it”, to which he responded that it was his wedding day as well.
“He told me he was disappointed that I couldn’t do one little thing for him on his wedding day and I told him he was an a*****le for making people dress a certain way even if they don’t want to,” she revealed.
“I got a lot of weird looks from people during the ceremony and reception. And my brother and his wife pretty much avoided me completely the entire time. Even my parents kept their distance from me.
“I really don’t think I did anything wrong because my brother’s request was stupid from the beginning.”
While it seems the poster was expecting commenters to support her decision, the majority of them slammed her for not following the bride and groom’s request.
“She broke the first rule of attending a wedding: Don’t take attention away from the bride and groom,” one person wrote.
“This day was not about you. You were being bratty and selfish,” said another.
Another unimpressed person commented: “Wearing pink for a few hours isn’t going to melt your skin off. You knew that it was a simple request and you still dug in your heels and decided to be a brat because you apparently think the whole world revolves around you.”
