With many of us hosting small gatherings at home, self-storage experts Space Station have some clever ideas to help.
Get the most out of your party leftovers and save some cash with our savvy tips[/caption]Here, its marketing manager Vlatka Lake reveals her tips.
KEEP YOUR GIN ON ICE. Hosting guests is the perfect excuse to dig out that bottle of gin you’ve been saving.
To keep it fresh for the next gathering, store it in the freezer. Gin won’t freeze and make the bottle smash because its alcohol volume [ABV] is at least 37.5% — too high to turn to ice. The colder the gin, the silkier the texture.
LET CHEESE BREATHE. Shop-bought cheese often comes in plastic packaging. To keep cheese fresher and help it last longer, remove this and wrap it in parchment paper or cheese paper.
This simple tip will help the cheese breathe and last longer in your fridge.
SANDWICH YOUR CAKE. If you are serving cakes or baked goods to guests and want to prepare it in advance or keep it fresh for a few days after the party, this trick is essential.
Place slices of bread on your fresh cake to prevent it going stale. It works like magic.
The bread will go rock hard but your cake will stay fresh and moist.
STOP THE BROWNING PROCESS. Guacamole is the perfect accompaniment at a buffet. But, although it’s easy to make, it’s often messy too – so it’s wise to prepare it in advance.
A super-simple hack to stop your avocado going brown once prepared is to place it in an air-tight container with a cut-up raw onion underneath it. Nobody really knows why this works so efficiently, but it does.
If you want to store any leftover guacamole post-party, chop up a fresh onion and store the same way to ensure it stays fresh for longer.
