Livid locals to build ANOTHER wheelie-bin blockade to stop school-run parents parking across driveways
LIVID locals are set to build ANOTHER wheelie-bin blockage to stop parents from parking across their driveways while on the school run.
Residents living on Halton Place, Cleethorpes, previously blocked access to their road by lining up their bins – in a bid to stop parents from dropping and picking up their kids from the local school.

And the furious locals are ready to do the same again as the school term starts up again in the three-month-long battle with parents.
Residents say the agreement to use the gate was only in place during the pandemic for social distancing – but now is being adopted as a permanent measure for the school.
And they are sick of their cul-de-sac being used as a car park, and feeling like they’re being treated as “stupid, old pensioners.”
A neighbour said: “I expect the wheelie bins will be out again soon. No one is in a mood to back down. Some are planning when to get the bins out.”
Pam Ireland told Grimsby Live: “We are still in the same position as we were at the end of the summer term. We have been let down and now it seems we are having our noses rubbed in it.”
She added: “They need to get their priorities right. We were given a promise 11 years ago the gate would remain closed and only used for emergency vehicles.
“The gate has never been used until they started using it because of the pandemic.

“Now they want to use it all the time. We are being treated like stupid, old pensioners. Those children are walking out straight into the road.
“We have nurses, doctors, delivery vehicles and residents’ cars all trying to use that road. But parents park where they like and block the driveways so no one can get out.”
“How would anyone feel if their elderly parent was blocked in? Don’t pensioners have the right to drive to and from their homes? People in their 80s are just as entitled to drive as anyone else.
“We understand the Covid restrictions. We are not thick. It is the safety of the children we are thinking about and it frightens us children will be walking on the road where there are all the cars.”
She added: “We have been good neighbours. All we are asking for is for the school to reciprocate. Just because there are problems on Grainsby Avenue, doesn’t mean the problem has to be dumped on Halton Place residents.”
North East Lincolnshire Councillor Ian Lindley chaired a meeting between residents’ representatives, police and Cleethorpes Academy leaders in a bid to solve the issue.
He said: “There is an issue with the academy trying to dilute the number of people congregating at the main access to the school.
PARKING WAR
“We had a meeting before the end of term. I was invited the chair that meeting. Where they are with it now, I do not know.
“The Academy intend to maintain the access at Halton Place on a long-term basis. Residents are not used to it being used once it has been closed for so many years. There was a suggestion that there might be a way forward but that has not been reported to me.”
Following the meeting, a statement was issued by Cleethorpes Academy.
It read: “A lengthy stakeholder meeting took place at Cleethorpes Academy where interesting and detailed discussions took place.
“A skeleton plan for a way forward was agreed and a future meeting will take place in due course. Both sides are looking forward to working together in the future.”
