Who was Mark Lanegan?
Born on November 25, 1964, Mark Lanegan was a singer, songwriter, author, and musician.
A native of Washington state, Lanegan joined guitarist Gary Lee Conner, Bassist Van Conner, and drummer Mark Pickerel to form Screaming Trees in 1984.
The group was the main part of Seattle’s grunge scene, running in the same circles as bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains.
Their debut album, Clairvoyance, dropped in 1986. A decade later, they released their final album as a group: Dust.

“Our beloved friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland,” a statement via Lanegan’s personal Twitter account reads.
“A beloved singer, songwriter, author and musician he was 57 and is survived by his wife Shelley. No other information is available at this time. The family asks everyone to respect their privacy at this time.”
A cause of death has yet to be released.
In 2021, the musician revealed he was battling both Covid-19 and kidney disease.
It is currently unknown if the illnesses related to his death.
