Cheltenham Festival punter’s agonising wait to see if he wins £275,000 from a fiver
THIS Cheltenham Festival punter is sitting on a life-changing £275,000 windfall – but faces an agonising wait to see if it comes in.
Liam Honeyborne from Hereford posted a photo of his mega bet on Twitter, which shows him standing to win more than quarter of a million from a fiver.
If it sounds impossible then just remember last year, when punter Paul Dean pocketed £250,000 from £5 despite one of his picks falling.
Liam’s bet takes in five horses running at the Festival in a fortnight’s time.
He backed them all at much bigger odds, with three of his picks now short-priced favourites.
Fantastic Five
THE punter placed their bet a year ago - below shows the odds they backed them at vs what they are now.
A Plus Tard 12-1 Gold Cup – now 3-1 FAV
Jonbon 25-1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – now 4-1
Bob Olinger 4-1 Turners’ Novices’ Chase – now 5-4
Telmesomethinggirl 12-1 Mares’ Hurdle – now 3-1 FAV
Shishkin 6-4 Champion Chase – now 4-6 FAV
For example, he plucked out A Plus Tard at 12-1 in the Gold Cup.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained star is now the 3-1 favourite for the big race.
However, despite all the meticulous planning that goes into a bet like this – not to mention a bit of luck too – Liam could see it all come crumbling down in the first race on the first day.

That’s because he needs Nicky Henderson’s Jonbon to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
Liam backed the JP McManus-owned horse at a monster 25-1.
He shortened into 9-4 off the back of a couple of impressive wins, but has since drifted out to 4-1 as rivals such as Constitution Hill, Sir Gerhard and Dysart Dynamo have all come in.
If Jonbon wins then it is onto the Mares’ Hurdle, where Liam needs Telmesomethinggirl.
She was around 12-1 for this race after winning the Mares’ Novice Hurdle under Rachael Blackmore last year.
But under sustained support she has shortened to 3-1 favourite.
If Bob Olinger can win the Turners’ at 5-4 after being backed at 4-1 and Shishkin secures the Champion Chase at 4-6 after being backed at 6-4, then it’s onto Friday.
Second in the Gold Cup last year, Liam needs A Plus Tard – whose name in French means ‘see you later’ – to go one better this time round.
Should they all prevail then he will win a grand total of £274,625 from £5.
Mind you, he’s not the only one with a lot on the line.
Sun Racing told you last week how another punter can land the equivalent of a 30-1 winner without any of his horses even running.

They had a cash out offer of more than £600 from a £20 bet on three horses.
But that cash out offer has now been boosted to over a grand after the odds on Brandy Love, Stage Star and Facile Vega all shortened dramatically.
Should they all come in he stands to win £93,860.
Another punter is looking at a £74,360 winner from a tenner should Brandy Love, Dysart Dynamo and Vauban all win.
While one shrewd operator needs just one more horse to triumph to net £9,000 from a fiver.
