Fans of the show have been guessing who will be drafted in to replace him – with many believing it could be a famous face from The Chase.
Ladbrokes have revealed that the betting odds see ITV Chaser Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha as a popular choice amongst viewers.
While Susie Dent is an early favourite to replace Richard, 51 – leading the way at 5/2 – Paul, also 51, follows close behind at 6/1.
The bookies have also priced up other replacements, including Alex Horne at 7/2 and Victoria Coren Mitchell at 9/2.

Meanwhile, it was announced today that Richard would be quitting hit daytime show Pointless after 13 years presenting the programme.
He decided to walk away from the long-running BBC One series having filmed more than 1,300 episodes and nearly 30 series.
The presenter is doing so to focus on his hugely successful writing career – which has seen him become a best-selling author.
Richard has co-hosted the popular show alongside his friend Alexander
Armstrong, having initially stood in for a test run for the BBC.
The Sun understands that Richard – who created the show’s format –
will be replaced by a series of rotating guest co-hosts.

Filming for the new series starts in May and will be the first time
since the show first aired in 2009 that Richard will not be seen as
Alexander’s “Pointless friend” behind his trusty laptop.
He will continue to host the celebrity spin-off Pointless Celebrities
in the short-term but is expected to step away from that too.
